Privacy Policy
Last updated: 13 July 2026
Stala ("we", "us") is an installation management platform operated by Stala Ltd, registered in England and Wales. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use the Stala mobile app and website, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. Stala Ltd and the installing supplier assigned to your job both have access to your data and each act as a data controller for it under UK data protection law.
What we collect
- Account details — your name, email address, phone number and a securely hashed password.
- Property details — the installation address you give us, which we convert to map coordinates to plan visits.
- Survey answers and photos — answers you or our team record about your property, including photos of areas relevant to the installation (for example your fuse board or the proposed install location).
- Video call recordings — remote survey calls are recorded (video and audio). See "Video recordings" below.
- Messages — messages you exchange with our team through the app.
- Job and payment records — quotes, appointments, documents and installation records for your job.
- Technical data — IP address, device/browser information and session cookies needed to keep you signed in.
Video recordings
Remote survey appointments take place as video calls and are recorded so that our team can complete your installation survey accurately. You will always know when a call is being recorded. Recordings capture video and audio of the call, which may include the inside of your home.
We process recordings in the following ways: we store them securely; we generate a written transcript of the call; and we use automated analysis (AI) to help extract survey answers from what was said and shown — for example, identifying the frame of the video that best shows your fuse board and saving it as a survey photo. Extracted answers are always available for review and correction by our staff, and any decision about your installation or quote is made by a person, not by the automated system.
Our lawful basis for recording and analysing survey calls is the performance of our contract with you (carrying out the survey your installation requires) and our legitimate interest in doing so accurately and efficiently. If you would prefer not to be recorded, contact us and we will arrange an alternative way to complete your survey, such as an in-person visit.
How we use your data
- To provide the service: managing your survey, quote, appointments, installation and support.
- To communicate with you about your job, including messages and email notifications.
- To keep the service secure and prevent misuse.
- To meet legal obligations, such as accounting and electrical-safety record keeping.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run Stala, who process data only on our instructions:
- Daily.co — powers our video calls and the initial capture of call recordings.
- Amazon Web Services — secure storage of recordings, photos and documents, and the transcription and AI analysis described above. AI processing runs within AWS; your recordings are not used to train AI models.
- Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) — to send notification emails.
- Render — where the application and its database are hosted.
- The installer carrying out your job — the supplier or engineer assigned to your installation sees the job details needed to do the work.
Your recordings, photos and documents are stored with Amazon Web Services. Some providers may store data outside the UK; where they do, transfers are protected by recognised safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or an adequacy decision.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as your account is active and as needed to support your installation, including any warranty or safety obligations. Call recordings are kept until the warranty on your installation expires, then deleted. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data except where we are legally required to retain it (for example, financial records).
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from within the app, or by emailing us at hello@stala.io. Deletion removes your account and associated personal data as described above.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its processing, and receive a copy of it in a portable format. To exercise any of these, email hello@stala.io. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Children
Stala is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Changes and contact
We will post any changes to this policy on this page and, where the changes are significant, notify you in the app. Questions about this policy or your data: hello@stala.io.
